What PT-141 is

PT-141 is a cyclic heptapeptide derived from the alpha-MSH sequence. It acts at melanocortin receptors, principally MC3 and MC4, which is a different mechanism from the vascular compounds it is often compared with. It is a metabolite of melanotan II, developed separately.

Common questions

Is PT-141 related to melanotan II?

Yes. PT-141 is a metabolite of melanotan II that was developed as a separate compound. They share the melanocortin mechanism but differ in receptor selectivity.
